HOTA engaged J9 as the arts precinct vision started to become a reality. Janine was our critical friend, providing insights and provocations that enabled the development of an actionable three-year framework that enabled strong philanthropic growth. As we look to the next three years, we will extend the existing framework and goals, giving us six years of total value. We continue to lean on her expertise knowing that our strategy has a strong foundation based on Janine’s sector knowledge and insights.

HOTA, Home of the Arts

Gold Coast City Council developed a new cultural destination across a 16.9-hectare site, creating a new home for artists, residents, and visitors.  The development features a $37M outdoor stage and a $60.5M gallery which opened in 2021. The council supported the infrastructure and organisational capacity. Additional private sector support was required for HOTA’s visionary, bold initiatives.

Approach

HOTA engaged J9 to design of a new major gifts program for the precinct. This required an analysis of the external fundraising environment and an organisational review to inform a strategic approach to building support. J9 consulted with current and prospective stakeholders, developed a case for support, major gifts table, engagement and stewardship plan and implementation activities.

Results

A Founding Donors program was launched and HOTA received its first major gifts within 12 weeks. The organisational capacity to secure funds was built and the 3 year plan implemented. In 2022, in line with strategy, a $1M donation was received.
